Rutsiro: Karambi ECD center inaugurated to accommodate 120 children

Kigali-10 July 2018-The magnificent ECD Center was constructed in remote area in Kivumu sector in partnership with Imbuto Foundation, Tamari Foundation and UNICEF. The facility has three rooms, a kitchen, and sports facilities, among others, with a capacity of hosting 120 children between 3-6 years. During the inauguration of this center which was held on 9 July 2018, the Permanent Secretary in MIGEPROF UMUTONI Gatsinzi Nadine greeted Imbuto Foundation chaired by the First Lady Jeanette Kagame and other partners for their efforts in establishing the ECD center. The Permanent Secretary called on citizens to join hands and supports the ECD center for a better use. ‘Dear parents, bear in mind that you own this ECD center. Support it and take your children there so that they benefit from its services. Work hard and think about self-reliance when partners stop funding you.’ Recent statistics from DHS 2015 show that stunting in Rutsiro district is at 45.8% while stunting among children under five is at 38% countrywide and combating this issue require joint efforts and using existing mechanism such as Parent Evening (Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi), health workers, sanitation clubs according to the Permanent Secret. Sandrine Umutoni, the Director General of Imbuto Foundation – an initiative of First Lady Jeannette Kagame said the day is an honor for us to inaugurate the ECD centers, a place where children can flourish. She added that the initiative is committed to accelerating efforts to provide early childhood care for all children, a commitment that is premised on the conviction that having a well-groomed child is a foundation for a country’s future. Governor Munyantwali Alphonse who was the Guest of Honor, said: ‘A better early childhood development starts in families, and a family must be equipped with suitable skills on how to take good care of children, right from an early stage. Parents, seek for that knowledge so that each family will become an ECD center.’ Karambi ECD centers costed Rwf64m. it was inaugurated after 9 months since the First Lady Mrs. Jeanette Kagame laid a foundation stone at the ground last year.
